While this model may not necessary end up in Malaysia, it’s worthwhile to see how American’s Camry looks like. Yep, we are bringing to you the 1st pictures of the 2012 Camry, as promised. The US Camry gets a revised 2.5 litre 4 cylinder engine and 3.5 litre V6. The later however will not likely make its way here due to road tax structure.
For those who are environmentally conscious, there is also a hybrid version of the Camry using revised Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain (convention 2.5 litre 4 cylinder with electric motor). It seems like Toyota is playing it safe with the new Camry with no new engine introductions.
However, on the interior, the Camry gets a redesigned dash, incorporated with what seems to be Toyota’s version of iDrive called the Entune Multimedia System. The material used on the dash looks to be of high quality from the picture (can’t confirm this unless by touch and knocking test).
Toyota also said that the Camry’s driving dynamics is engaging. Previous Camrys aren’t known to be engaging to drive, but they are comfortable nevertheless. So, is Toyota playing its cards right by making the Camry have good handling and exceptional ride, by obviously bench-marking BMW? Let’s not forget that at least here in Malaysia, Camry buyer is likely to be someone who appreciates comfort more than ride and handling.
Let’s wait and see.
